Critical Migration Studies
This course studies the contemporary debates and interventions in Latinx migration studies. By undertaking an interdisciplinary approach, it covers a wide range of intersectional critiques to traditional approaches in what constitutes immigration and border studies.
Therefore, this upper division course highlights four monumental intersecting frames: 1.) Indigenous Migrations 2.) Central American Refugee “Crisis” 3.) Bordering through Gender and Sexuality, and 4.) Centering anti-Blackness and Moving Towards Abolition.
This overview is designed to introduce students to diverse Latinx migrant populations that are otherwise understudied and made invisible.
